Internal Medicine

The internal medicine team investigates into diseases of the internal organs of the body such as the lungs, kidneys, gastro-intestinal tract, neurological system, eyes, skin and liver. The use of specialist equipment and techniques such as ultrasound, endoscopy, radiography, electrocardiography and laboratory testing are used to evaluate disease.

 

The internal medicine department is headed by Natasha Jocelyn, a European Specialist in Equine Internal Medicine.

The internal medicine service can investigate a wide range of conditions including:

  • Colic – acute, chronic or recurrent
  • Diarrhoea
  • Weight loss
  • Gastric ulceration
  • Respiratory disease
  • Liver disease
  • Urogenital disease including the kidneys and bladder
  • Endocrine disorders
  • Neurological disease including headshaking
  • Muscle disease
  • Dermatological disorders
  • Ophthalmic disease
  • Cardiac disease
  • Blood disorders
  • Infectious disease

We are also able to provide care for critically ill foals and adult horses in the intensive care unit in our purpose-built hospital. We work alongside our team of specialist surgeons to ensure all hospital patients have the best care.
